Assimp works fine for conversion, but I would like the file sop to use it to import lwo ..

Technical Discussion » Use GEOio.json to convert LWO

Well I used FBio and it was quite uncomplicated to import dicom images into houdini as if they where native .. I thought I could do the same with lwo objects without needing to write code .. I have a python sop which reads lwo but its complicated and often doesnt work as expected and first of all I dont want to invest time into things like moving data around
I hope that I could benefit from the work of others in this case .. by using a working converter ..

I would like to use assimp to convert .lwo into obj or collada with the GEOio.json config file, just like FBio .. I could not find much documentation about GEOio.json. Is it possible or is it just usefull for convertion tools which can write bgeo ? Can someone give me an example ?

Is it possible to output debug info to the python shell or the textport from a python sop ?
Or whats the preferred way to output debug info from python in houdini ??

OK thanks .. I missunderstood the function of this node. I thought that I would be able to paint in a vector field ( RGB )

Is there a tool to interactively manipulate a 3D vector field of about 300^3 dimension ? I read something about the new comb tools manipulating vector fields ..
I have this procedurally generated vectorfield and need something to enable an artist to change length and direction of certain regions of this vectorfield ?
At the moment I am working with mask scalar fields and blending between different vector field to achive my goal, but the process it totaly unsuited for the artists in the team ..
I would imagine something like a brush working on a slicer with attached streamer .. is it possible to implement something like that in HOM or would it need HDK to do the job ?

Until now I used a python sop to do erode and dilate operations (numpy) on volumes, but now I just stumbled over the erode dilate operator in openvdb ..
Is it somehow reachable from houdini or do I need the write some HDK code ?

I try to sample a volume in a volume vop which is connected to the second input of the vop .. something doesnt work can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong ? .. I know I could use the volume merge node for the attached file, but I need the volume vop for a more complex setup later on ..

I saw on the numpy forum that you also tried to compile numpy with vc11 ..
Did you succeed ? there is a version of numpy compiled with vc11 on the freecad forum in the libpack.
I am searching for a build of scipy with vc11. Did you try that too ?

Since some time it think with the later v13 versions of houdini numpy got included in the python runtime on windows. I would like to ask for scipy integration too. Now with H14 using VC11 you have to compile all your python libs on your own and scipy is quite hard to compile ..
So i would beg sidefx to include scipy too !!
And btw. does anyone have a working version of scipy x64 vc11 ??

That was it .. I didnt realize that this was a general viewport setting.
I thought it was a fancy ‘feature’ of the slicer.

Is it somehow possible to disable the grid in the volume slicer ?
Often the grid get so dense that the voxels become invisible, if the resolution of the volume gets higher..

I have a python sop which generates a vector field from a scalar field by laplace diffusion .. in this code I copy the numpy arrays into houdini volumes.
volumeX = geo.createVolume( xres, yres, zres, volume_bbox)
volumeX.setAllVoxels (flowField.flatten(order='F'))
volumeY = geo.createVolume( xres, yres, zres, volume_bbox)
volumeY.setAllVoxels (flowField.flatten(order='F'))
volumeZ = geo.createVolume( xres, yres, zres, volume_bbox)
volumeZ.setAllVoxels (flowField.flatten(order='F'))
Now my question .. Can I name the volumes with hom in the python sop or do I have to use an external name sop to do so ??

Wow !
A histogram in the viewport ! I am astonished.
I am playing around with a python sop which uses numpy histogram to generate the buckets, but I could not get the resulting data into the GUI
I was trying to write the values into a ramp parameter of the pysop to show the histogram.
