Hi guys,

Does anyone know if Houdini COPS support chinese & japanese characters in the fonts COP?

i am trying to use COPS on one of my projects that involve some asian fonts effects and I really hope that I don't have to input asian fonts as outline one by one. Any ideas from anyone?

Thanks~

Hi Hammer. Finally back in the Houdini land? No, unfortunately, I Houdini doesn't support any asian fonts… the GUI will display some garbled text, but the parameters in Houdini definitely won't display any Asian fonts at all.

Houdini can read True Type fonts, I believe. It just involves placing them in the correct location in your search path (like $HOME/houdini9.1/fonts). I'm sure there must be Help for it somewhere. You can also look at the “gfont” executable too.

This is for the Font SOP. Not sure about the COPs, but I'd assume it works there too.

The only problem is that the asian characters in the truetype fonts are usually in the upper registers of the unicode. I've been trying this lately and having limited success.

If anyone has any ideas about the syntax for the higher numbers of unicode that would be helpful.

Yes, that is the workaround we've been using to create the outlines, but it would be so much easier if the Font SOP/COP could do it.

Unless you were suggesting some way of using Illustrator to figure out the syntax for using unicode in the Font SOP, but it didn't seem like it from your post.

Hey Steven,

That thread seems to be missing now. I looked at it last week, and now it seems to be gone. Any keywords I can use to look it up?

Hey Dave,

Here's the direct link to the video tutorial [cardanfx.net]. I used “illustrator” as the keyword to search & the member is “CARDANFX”.

I think the thread link is to 9.? beta forum and maybe it's closed now?

Cheers!

I read something that Edward wrote that says that if you take the .ai file and rename it to .eps, the file sop would open it. Tried it and it worked fine.

No fills, change text to outlines, and put a stroke on them.

Hello,
I am here becouse i whould like to zombie this thread for matrix purposes.

I assume theat by now there is something really simple ?
THe fonts work in the text field itself but not in the rendered cops output.

You just need to use a supported font. Adobe Ming Std, Yu Gothic, there's a handful of other typefaces out there with full Asian character support. The Font COP is just rasterizing a Font SOP so anything the Font SOP supports will work in Copernicus.
