In an effort to continue to support users on various platforms for future releases we'd like to get an idea of which builds of Houdini people are typically installing, using, or compiling plugins for on a regular basis. Just to assure you, we have no intention of getting rid of older builds that people are still using in production.

Please feel free to respond to in this poll thread with any additional info you believe is relevant. e.g. How long you plan to keep compiling against a certain build or what platforms you would like to use in the future.
Also, if you use more than one of these builds regularly, let us know in this thread.

Thanks!

Mac OSX, 10.5.6, and Vista Ultimate SP 1, 32-bit, are regularly updated with the latest available builds, in addition to the most current production builds for both.
Houdini 8.2.274 (Windows 32-bit, VC 7) is used, occasionally.

We're ‘none of the above’ and all 64 bit Linux in production, however I would point out that old(but robust) 32 bit linux systems make excellent license servers(and file/hqueue servers too, for that matter!), so frankly we hope to be able to keep using 32 bit in that regard for as long as possible. We never bundle up license servers with anything that might be doing serious work.

However, we do keep those 32 bit servers with recent distros…

Cheers,

J.C.

I voted (none of the above) as Win64 is what I tend to use. One Win32 version sometimes comes in handy though. I would still keep one of those for some time.

I know that Linux will eventually suck me in though…

64bit windows here. Occasionally 32bit for the Realflow plugin only, once the Realflow plugin is available for Win64 I won't go back to Win32.

I 2nd the arguments of JC. Older linux hardware is great for license servers etc. Using archlinux here which has the latest and greatest (gcc 4.3, xorg 1.6 etc) and the houdini gcc 4.2 version. It is rock solid (most of the time).

I'd be interested to see the download stats from the Download page…

Houdini 10 on Linux(64bit) Kubuntu 9.04. The transit from win64 to linux64 has been improving the overall sensation of Houdini in such a way that there is no way back.

I'm using Apprentice HD 10 Windows Vista 32bit (VC8).

Why has there not been a daily 32bit VC8 build since build 272?

No, it's not because of this poll. Said build machine has been having hardware problems but will probably be back up soon.
