Is there a way to create a custom node like the “ROP Output Driver” SOP using the HDK, or perhaps extend it to support a custom file format?

I've been looking at having Houdini work with another renderer and there only seemed to be the use of Soho, at least in terms of it being straightforward.

But when I looked into actual HDK ROP side of things, it became a bit confusing. Not sure if there are any actual functions that work like Soho, or if we're supposed to just work with the objects and gdp as one would in SOPs and the other contexts.

Any light on this would be great 8)

It's fairly straightforward to create a standard SOP that outputs a file, so it's not blocking me. The SOHO docs mention image file extensions, but geometry doesn't seem to be covered.. maybe i've missed something.

I'll just emulate the File SOP for now.
