I just started trying to learn houdini 11. I cannot get any viewports to show any shaded objects. I create a cube and I try to select the flat or shaded options and I can only get a wireframe to work. The other choices make the object disappear from view. What am I doing wrong? I am on a MacBook Pro 17" with 2gb of ram. It has an ATI x1600 graphics built in. Latest Snow Leopard OSx and drivers.

Edit- I just saw some other threads with similar problems. Is there a cure? I cannot replace the graphics since it is built in.
no shaded views?

While we were able to get Houdini 11 running on an X1000 series card using ATI's drivers, we haven't been able to get it running reliably on an ATI X1000 series card using OSX's OpenGL drivers.
To fix this issue, you can turn off Material Shaders (Display Options, Effects, Material Shaders). Houdini will then use the old OpenGL 1.x fixed function pipeline for shading. This unfortunately will disable most of the new viewport effects, but at least shaded will work.
