Hello,

I have Windows 7 and I've been trying to get Houdini Apprentice up and running. You can either install “Apprentice Licensing” or the “License Server.” I've tried both ways and it seems the license server option gets me a bit further, but I'm still having issues once the installation is complete.

This time, however, a window popped up that said: “License Error: Unable to connect to hserver for license acquisition”

It seems like this guy http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_forum&Itemid=172&page=viewtopic&p=122638&sid=5964ee423a08da649f23b70837180e3d [sidefx.com] had similar problems, but I can't figure out his solution…

Earlier I got a bit further and was able to get to a window that either allowed me to install/reinstall licenses and another option that allowed me to view more information on licenses. Even with that, I was still unable to install a license. But anyway, I would really appreciate the help! I'm stumped :\

Hey Seven,
Had the same problem on a mac. Had to enter lic manually.

Go to "http://license.sidefx.com/get_nc_license.php [license.sidefx.com]" and follow instructions. Once you get your code, open your license admin (same directory where Houdini was installed) and go File > enter license manually. You should be all set.

hth,

Could you tell me what you specifically put down to get the code? I've tried twice and the codes I use don't work (it tells me that they aren't valid), but I think the problem might be that there isn't an option for Houdini 12.1.
And Server name = Server version? >>

Thanks,

I'm getting exactly the same issue on Win 7 x64. I have manually installed the licences via “/get_nc_licence.php” to no avail.
Un-installed and re-installed several times and the same issue is present.

An extra little oddity I have found. If I start Houdini via the shortcut/menu this licencing error appears. However if I double click a save file, it immediately opens in Houdini 12.1.33 without issue.

After closing and going via the shortcut again, back to licencing problems.

I finally got it to work! I got the correct code and I got three green checks.
I'm just going to hope it won't bug out on me with the licenses again.

Thanks kumara and ragupasta!

If it does bug out again, use the save file work-around, by double clicking a save file.
I have also for the time being opened a saved file, then made a new scene, and saved that.
So If I'm starting something fresh, I just double click the saved empty scene file to boot Houdini.
