Is there a way to not render the source in pyro?

Hey guys, I've always wondered this, is there a way to not render the fluids where the source is? I have a project I'm working on and I only want the flames for it, not the big blob that is the source. I do have the geo SOP that contains the source turned off.

Attached is a picture of my problem.

Thanks..

By “big blob” do you mean the bright white area at the base of the fire?

If so, just adjust the Pyro fire colour ramp and change the white to the orange.

Hi Jeff.

Thanks for the response. Attached is the area that I'm talking about. Basically those areas circled are where the geometry is. I don't want to have any thing render where the source is. I just want to have the flames render, not what is fueling\sourcing the flames. Sorry I'm having a hard time explaining this… Ask if you need more clarification.

In the picture, I only want what is above the red circles to be rendered. Not the area where the flames are being emitted from.

Thanks!

You could take the source geometry, convert to a volume, expand it a bit and then use this as a mask to remove the part of the fire around the source after the simulation.

See the attached example file for one attempt at this.
