I'm a bit confused. I've used this tool before and it just worked without any problems. I've started on a new file, which is much simpler, but the connect adjacent pieces node does absolutely nothing.
I'm sure I'm doing something stupid, but I just can't see it.
Very simple use of Connect Adjacent Pieces does not work

I've had that lately as well. Try creating another obj and selecting that, I've seen the selected object disappear lately. Or try opengl 2.1 or rendering.

Yes, this did start happening when I updated my graphics card on both my work and home machines. I've submitted a bug anyway and the devs have the information, but in the meantime I'm trying to see if there's a way to downgrade my drivers.
Oh, and I'll be trying to achieve an interesting animation effect eetu - and I'm sure to get stuck and post for help, so I'll warn you in advance

I don't know if my issue was the same that the OP was encountering, but in case this thread is found by another having the same problem I had…
I was using a Voronoi Fracture node then an Assemble node to create the packed geometry. When I added the Connect Adjacent Pieces node, I was not seeing any connections. I looked back at my Assemble node and saw that my Pivot Location was set to Origin. When I changed it to Centroid, all of the connections then appeared between my pieces.
