ok, no answers so far ,
i tried to uninstall and re install houdini in an attempt to clear any issues , this hasn't worked and for some reason i can run the indie version but not render….
“Error: Couldn't add operator type Shop/vopsurface
Error: Couldn't remove old operator type definition sesi_temporary:hop/vopsurface
No licenses could be found to run this application.
Please check for a valid license server host”
can anyone help or point me in the right direction ?
thanks in advance

Getting:
Error: Couldn't remove old operator type definition sesi_temporary::Object/subnet
So now I cannot import any FBX or anything that has a subnetwork built into it as it's trying to write on the open one…
Restarted, tried different dumb stuff… no luck.
And I see this post has been inactive for two years or more.
Did you solve this? How?
Thanks!
Francisco.

have a look in the type properties manager and filter for sesi_temporary
it should help you find the hda which is redefining Object/subnet, which I am imagining you did accidentally or was done as part of a crash file.
You can remove this .hda file or copy the bits in it that you want to keep to a new .hda file and remove the original.

Having just run into this issue myself, I figured I'd post for posterity.
Error: Couldn't remove old operator type definition sesi_temporary:op/curve
Screwing up my curve sop in my case.
I found the issue was an .hda that was created in my personal preference, i.e. C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents\houdini16.0\otls
called OPcustom.hda
When I delete this file, the issue goes away.
I imagine this file could get created anywhere in your Houdini Environment.
It doesn't correlate to a crash file in my temp directory but I do recall a Houdini session crashing around the time the files was created.
It would explain why a reinstall will not fix the issue as it's in your preferences that doesn't get destroyed.
Hope this helps someone in the future.

I never post here, but I just had to.
I thought I lost my work, all the backup were also corrupted. Reinstalling didn't work. Deleting all Houdini registry keys didn't work. I thought I will have to format my system istg.
Thank you so, so, so much. You saved my work.
Also I'm sorry but an hda file inside of an installation folder, that for some reason doesn't get uninstalled is just straight up dumb.
