I'm in your same postion. I've been using Maya, but I've been intrigued by houdini for years. I've finally started to try & learn it.

Will Gnomon release other Houdini videos?

Received my Gnomon video a couple of days ago & finished watching it tonight. The first few chapters, which cover the U.I. were very good & in depth. Then the video goes haphazzardly into modeling/shading/workflow/etc.

Overall, a nice introduction into Houdini. The author (Garman Heringstad) is hard to follow sometimes, & his method of teaching could be a bit more structured. A solid modeling DVD to follow this up would be perfect.

Watch out for the book: The Magic Of Houdini. It is scheduled to release in November some time. It will be an excellent place to start to understand the power of Houdini. Houdini truely is unlike any other 3D software package and this book does a good job of demystifying this powerful, diverse and at times the most abstract piece of software in the industry.
