Hi

I'm just curious, but how much do companies use L-systems in production? Is it an important skill to have when applying for jobs in the industry?

I don't think I've ever seen them used in production; too hard to art direct.

it comes up from time to time for generalist work. Excellent for stamping variations to plants, then pushing the skeletons through a wire-sim before building the polys/UVs with polywire. Much better than rigging prefabs.

I have never seen L-Systems required for a position, but I have used them in production. It's a handy tool to have in your box. If you know how to use them you will see opportunities to use them.

Thanks guys. It's good to hear they being used sometimes. I think I might look deeper into the systems.

Anastasia Opera's hive talk has a nice discussion of the limitations of L-systems at the beginning.
