This is the error I get.
I have my latest Nvidia drivers.
This has been happening on previous version of Houdini also.
Any suggestions

So after working through a bunch of different form of updates from Nvidia graphic drivers to windows updates and what not, the solution was to uninstall an Audio driver/ program called Realtec (I uninstalled it from the control panel/programs). Now it works blissfully.
