So I'm doing this sewing machine that I hope to animate with a piece of fabric eventually. I'm a designer and modeler. I need advice on how to do certain piece and how to merge pieces together so that they move together when it's time to animate.

I need to attach the needle to the needle foot. I need to attach the handle to the balance wheel. I've included pictures. I am unsure how to do the metal pieces/mechanics of the sewing machine. Cube/move points? draw/extrude? etc…

I know Maya, or Blender may be easier but I love Houdini much better.

Any guidance, feedback and recommendations and constructive criticism are welcome.

Thanks

Pascal

Here is a little help on the wheel. Also there should be plenty of new constraint nodes in H.

Your proportions look off, the machine seems to long/stretched. Your edgeflow should go along your curves. Bevel on the plate is not that round, more flat. Since you have the machine in hand i would suggest taking pictures from orthogonal angles. I would also suggest adding an motor (since you want it animated)
