I would also like to see this. I know it can be extremely slow, but baking at screen space resolution isn't always feasible and XPU doesn't support frustum volumes (does CPU?)
Dont know about "frustum volumes" and karma cpu.
I just hate fact that after years of karma cpu development I need to use another renderer to get volume displacement at rendertime. maybe there is some workaround I dont know.

Still nothing? Im trying to render clouds, but in Karma you just cant do nice detailed noise displacement. Shame 
What you can do is only to multiply density by fractal noise or other noises. But it doesnt work for creating nice detail features on cloud edges.
