Hello all! Early gestation Houdini larvae here
Ah, so basic Houdini question: How do I re-cache strokes in 19.5? The shelf button is no longer there, and I can't find anything relevant in the documentation. I'm missing something to be sure...
Thanks,

There's a bunch of cool stuff in the new Houdini groom tools, but sadly a lot of the proceduralism has been lost compared to the old workflow. Honestly, for me 18.5 feels a lot more solid for grooming. In 19+, get used to manually caching stuff to disk and starting up a new guide groom each time.

In my opinion the recache strokes feature in the original guide groom rarely if ever worked in production.
I stress tested it a lot. In my initial tests I would give it the worst case scenario and with each cycle I would go for easier and easier situations for it to solve and even then it wouldn't parse the results that was useable.
If im honest it's a feature i do not miss.
But you are freely able to switch back to the guideGroom 1.0 in H19.5 with the Asset Manager. But i will take the optimized guideGroom 2.0 over it no question.

thracekelsickTo my understanding the reason was that new guidegroom contains more complex brushes and modes that simply can't easily be recorded as reproducible strokes
I'm confused as to the benefit of removing this feature

I think there is a point to be made were, maybe, one could use both operators in tandem, ie:
1. Guide Groom 2.0 : Use this to create guide curves from scratch where you just plug your skin and within the operator you have all the "destructive" curve modeling workflow, with fancy brushes and naming/grouping management (like in 19.5)
2. Guide Groom 1.0 : Use this to tweak things along your groom graphs to tweak things around while maintaining the ability to re-cache/re-stroke the edits to accommodate changes upstream.
In the long term may make more sense to have a new specialized operator for this types of pseudo-procedural tweaks with ability to re-cache etc, maybe with simpler brushes or something.
