Hi
Is there anybody currently transfering assets and data from/to houdini and max? I was wondering if there is any issues in the process, the plan is to bring existing geometry assets from max to houdini to perform the dynamic simulation and then export the baked animation back into max, would this be a ‘'smooth’' transfert via .fbx formet for instance or does it require more steps for the process?

thanks

Houdini doesn't support FBX, it supports COLLADA import, so you can import data from MAX this way. As to exporting back, you will have two choices:

OBJ sequences - rock solid solution practiced for ages by brave guys

or check out Obj Sequence To Point Cache Converter on Exchange.

There are two separate tools I think (not sure) which will let you convert animated geo to pointcloud object readable in MAX and Maya. Search forum for details.

ideal tools, aside from fbx:

for fixed topology (characters, props, etc.):
*fast* pc2 read/write for houdini.

for variable topology (particles, animated metaballs, etc.):
*fast* bgeo-sequence-reading dlo for max, with data mapping
and class options.

good luck,
