Not using Houdini much these days but was about to buy a license again and remembered the glitches on Apple Silicon last time I tried it so just asking here about the current status. Can't seem to find all info gathered in one place.
I do oc know the Karma XPU doesn't use metal and that the Vulkan viewport is not available but I am curious mostly on the overall usability. I used to have a lot of issues with network views getting laggy after a while, camera getting weird etc that made the whole experience quite bad compared to how it used to be in the pre AS era where stuff at least worked as far as I remember. Not pointing fingers here, just curious on if it is viable or more a case of "yeah, if you are a diehard apple fan with no other options, it's better than nothing"
Just tried apprentice a little and come across these glitches but it could oc be my system as well. (M3 MAX, maxxed to the max, Sonoma 14.4.1)

johnmatherOk thanks, I will try apprentice a little more to see if I can provoke these issues consistently or if there was a one time thing.
I haven't heard of anything like the issues you're encountering. If you're able to reproduce them, please send an email to support so that we can investigate.

Just did a mini-test:
1. clean new file
2. drop a geo
3. pighead
4. vdb from poly, 0.001, density
5: observe decent view performance
6: switch view to ortho: (key 2)
7: switch back to perspective (key 1)
8: observere severely reduced perf.
In 20.5.278 this was the case but after updating to 20.5.410 this particular issue is no longer present.
Maybe all is fine and dandy now, but these kinds of random and hard to indentify issues have been part of my experience using Houdini on AS Macs since it became available. Maybe no real showstoppers but still inconvenient. Apples OpenGL drivers might be the source of the problem I guess.
