This is a quick RBD study of coins using custom velocities in Houdini. I started with a low res coin to work inside of the DOP network, afterwards I instanced the hi res coins onto the points from bullet solver. The whirlpool velocity was created used a LERP of two different velocity forces. One to create the rotating force and another to bring them into the center. On top of the gold coins, I also added in strips of gold bars and genie lamps. The skull was created with two different materials. I used a curvature node as a bias for mixing the two shaders. I looked at a lot of reference from popular films such as Pirates of the Carribean and The Hobbit. Some of the coins have statues that I've 3d scanned in the past using Polycam. The final render was composited inside of Nuke and rendered with Karma using Gridmarkets Render Farm.
