I created a dynamic sandstorm R&D project in Houdini 20.5 using the Pyro Solver SOP. In this quick R&D Project, I experimented with storm shape control and optimizing workflows to craft a visually compelling sandstorm effect. Test simulation runs in just 5–10 minutes, while the high-resolution version takes about an hour to complete for all layers
Everything was rendered in Karma (XPU) USD workflow with multiple layers, which were then composited in Nuke. Even though this was a rapid R&D without strict scale references, It was fun controlling Pyro noise patterns and using simple techniques to create a realistic foreground dust layer for FX work.
