Pedro Pupa is the most beloved - and my personal favourite - villian from Earthworm Jim 2 which is one of, if not the greatest, video game of all time. He is a giant two-legged unicycle-riding maggot and the owner and operator of the mines of Planet Burbank. He lives under the rich soil along with his children and his workers, the ants.
I used Houdini extensively in this project. Almost all of the hardsurface modelling was done in Houdini and I retopologized the character sculpts using TopoBuild. The snot was made using a quick and dirty FLIP sim then touched up in ZBrush. All the rigging was done in KineFX, as well as the animation, which is completely procedural. To avoid keyframing, all of the animation was done using fit11(), sin(), and cos() functions along with a Secondary Motion SOP. The dust motes are a simple POP system with instanced geometries. I used Solaris for layout, lookdev, and lighting. The materials are all built in MaterialX and I rendered the scene in KarmaCPU.
The characters were sculpted in ZBrush and textured in Substance Painter.
The dirt mound is a Megascans asset.
