Bug? Manual smoke, incorrect attribute in fluid source Sept. 21, 2013, 1:43 p.m.
Hello to all, this is my first post :0)
I seem to have discovered something in 12.5.469 that may be of use to others: Using Pyro shelf to create smoke creates a fluid source node with a source attribute for density that is highlighted green, when seen from the Scalar Volumes tab, whereas creating the same effect manually does not. This value (by default in manual setup) seems to affect the overall look of the smoke giving a more mushroom-like look. You may not want this look and find it as difficult to change as I did.
A work around is simply to choose fuel from the container settings tab pull down menu and then choose smoke. Now the attribute will be set correctly i.e., will be highlighted green like the shelf tool and the result will be as expected.
Cheers,
Daniel

License Server Keeps Asking to Install Aug. 30, 2012, 1:09 p.m.
had same problem and tried all suggestions here (prior to reading them). The only thing that worked was installing license manually following instructions at: "http://license.sidefx.com/get_nc_license.php [license.sidefx.com]".

License Server issues with Houdini Apprentice 12.1.33 Aug. 30, 2012, 12:54 p.m.
Hey Seven,
Had the same problem on a mac. Had to enter lic manually.
Go to "http://license.sidefx.com/get_nc_license.php [license.sidefx.com]" and follow instructions. Once you get your code, open your license admin (same directory where Houdini was installed) and go File > enter license manually. You should be all set.
hth,
Edit: fixed URL
