Gas Sand Forces in H12 June 7, 2012, 8:09 a.m.
WhyGee
Hi,
Could someone please explain how to use the gas sand forces microsolver? I tried using it along with the flip solver and a strain matrix field but houdini crashes. Generally i'm looking for a clumping effect for sand.
Thanks in advance, any help is most appreciated.

I'm experiencing the same (tried to create a strain mtx field and connecting the gas sand forces microsolver to either input causes H12 to crash, 12.0.641 on linux).
Reported to SESI as a bug.
presets in ascii (or hexpand/hcollapse for presets) April 23, 2012, 4:29 a.m.

hey riviera, have you tried saving a preset from the ear menu in the parameter window? this saves an IDX file which is “kinda” of ascii
If not, writing a python node or script that exports a preset as XML is actually pretty simple using python minidom.
Well, the “kinda” ascii won't do – it's the same ‘kinda’ as .hip files, but since I want to put these in a git repository, I'd need them to be full ascii.
Also, since all presets for a node are stored in a single file, it's kinda complicated to merge preset files between users.

He already heard about it (one of the first things was me asking him about open-sourcing it–our studio is based on arnold now, too, which turned out to be a very solid foundation). I think he didn't like the completely open-source idea (except for customers )
They have another version in the works (being built at/by another studio, I think). Well, at the end it might even be the rare case of having an oversupply of houdini-to-arnold translators (And that's always a _good_ thing, btw)
