This video will demonstrate how to make a Houdini Digital Asset (HDA), using the Assets menu. Using the Copy to Points tool along with a sphere and grid, we're going to instance some spheres onto said grid, and then add some control parameters like sphere radius, colour and number of points in the Houdini Digital Asset. We will do so using the Edit Operator Type Properties window, and then show how to load the HDA.

I'm using 16.5 so maybe some changes since 14. For instance, my Bubbles subnet is called "copytopoints1" not "copy1" and I can't find the "Use Template Point Attributes" check box. Do we uncheck the "Copy Point Attributes" box instead?

I have same questions.

I got it to work. Didn't uncheck anything just left as is. Still be good if they updated the videos for new versions.

Does that digital asset save to the houdini project only?

I am trying to follow along this tutorial but I can not save a New Digital Asset... I continue to receive the following error:
"Error creating digital asset: Can't create new operator to replace /obj/grid1/subnet1. The node may contain VOP Networks that cannot be deleted. "
I have done exactly what is shown in this video yet the error persists. Any suggestions? I am using Houdini 17 Apprentice.

Has worked perfectly for me in 17... so it is not a version issue.

What is the shortcut to create the relative reference in the parameter section? I want to set the radius y and z to match x. Time in the video 4:19.
