Crowds for Feature Film in Houdini is a fast-paced guide to Houdini’s Crowd system by Mikael Pettersén who currently works as a Lead Crowd Technical Director at MPC. In this course, you will learn how to import your own characters into the crowd system, set up loops and transitions for your animation clips, set up a simulation without any shelf tools, set up behaviours and triggers, shade and finally render your crowds. Everything is taught in the same fast paced manner as the free tutorials that you can find on Mikael’s blog: http://shortandsweet3d.blogspot.co.uk/ The course is also split up into short chapters so you can, with ease, find exactly what you are looking for when revisiting the videos after your first playthrough.

After finishing the course, you will have a deep understanding of Houdini’s crowd framework and a solid foundation that you can keep building upon.

A big thanks to Centroid who captured all the motion capture for this course.

Barely into chapter 2 and already regretting this purchase. Couldn't the author have provided the .fbx files used in chapter 2.2? It would have made following along much easier. I have spent a day trying to export fbx files with no success. Also the content in the chapters go wayyyy too fast.

      Hi,

There is now an example file for each chapter.

      Cheers

Hey Chanson, I actually really like the speed of the chapters. It's a much more efficient way to receive information. I hate siting through mindless drivel just to get to one snippet of useful information!! This way, it's much easier to listen, pause and replay. Everyone is different I guess! : D

Hey Mikael. I'm digging the course so far. Good stuff.

I'm having a problem trying to merge Marvelous designer clothing sims with character animations. It might be the way I'm importing. It's driving me a bit crazy as I can't seem to figure it out. Any ideas on how to solve the problem of having character and cloth sims to be integrated into one agent.

Thanks for any help you could give.

      Hey Mike,

Sorry, I missed your comment. Unfortunately, it's not as straight forward as just importing a cloth sim to your crowd character because the animation of an agent just comes through skinned transforms. Possibly you could attach it as geometry to your crowd after the simulation is done, but that would be quite a techy task.

      Cheers

Thanks man. I appreciate you responding. The tutorial is great. The clothing thing is just driving me crazy. If I figure it out I'll send a line about it.
