Paul Esteves explores his top ten Houdini 19 nodes and discusses what is amazing about each of them. Learn how to set up the nodes, work with key settings and then apply each node to real world examples. In many cases, Paul shows how to use the node for purposes outside its intended use to have even more fun. As Paul would say “It’s Houdini Time.”
With the Vellum Configure Fluid node, you can now create awesome interactions between fluids and other Vellum objects. Learn how simple it is to set up and use and then explore some of its key settings.
On the Vellum Constraint node you now have a Shape Match option that offers a super rigid constraint that works smarter and faster than cranking up stiffness on a Vellum object. This makes it much easier to get rigid objects to interact with other Vellum objects.
In H19, the Vellum Brush node can brush fluids and grains. You can use it to brush a variety of Vellum constraints which makes it a lot of fun to work with. You will also learn how to use this tool to create organic cushions for a sofa model.
Curves play an important role in many different Houdini workflows and the new Curve 2.0 with bezier handles takes things to the next level. Learn how to place and edit points on the curve and some of the shortcuts you will use to work with tangents and points. Learn how to set up rounded corners and how to trace a logo. You will also use the curves to set up a Vellum hair sim.
This node is one of Paul’s most used nodes and with Houdini 19 it has some cool upgrades. You can now use offsets, groups and scaling to procedurally relate one piece of geometry to another. Learn how to create a procedural sofa that doesn’t use any expressions.
This node packages up a number of different workflows into a single node with a friendly workflow. Add color to your geometry or use it to feed other nodes for a procedural manipulation of geometry. You can also animate noises to add motion to your design. This tool includes interactive handles for working along a line or radially.
When animating with KineFX you can now add secondary motion with a few clicks. Working procedurally, you can explore a wide range of options to get the look you want. Add Jiggle, Spring and Gravity effects that can be used on characters or other animated shapes.
The new Pyro Solver has been reorganized to make it easier to use, especially in Minimal mode where you can use your GPU to run the sim. Learn about the Quick Settings which make it easy to initialize sources, create your Pyro look or create a Render stage for working in Solaris. Learn all about the settings needed to create compelling fire and smoke then learn how to use Pyro to drive other kinds of effects.
This node provides a native workflow for deforming volumes. This tool adds a lattice then a volume deform node. You can then use modeling deformers such as bend to manipulate the lattice and the volume follows. This is a powerful tool with many creative possibilities.
The Volume Noise Fog node is very useful for breaking up a volume source to create a more organic look. Learn how to access a wide range of noise types and use them to manipulate volumes that can then be converted back into interesting geometric shapes. You will also learn about other noise nodes such as Volume Adjust Fog, Volume Noise SDF and Volume Noise Vector.

Actually I like it, they increase the interest curve and allow for the learning curve to approach lim->null pretty quickly.
