Learn how to work with the Lighting tools in Houdini's Solaris context. Explore the various light handles for positioning lights from the camera's viewpoint then learn how to control all the lights using the light mixer. Next see how Solaris accommodates multi-shot scenarios with camera switching and insertion points. Finally explore the Render Gallery which is a powerful tool for generating multiple iterations as you work through your lighting setup.
Quickly explore the different topics being taught in this series of videos. Discover what you are going to learn about lighting in the Solaris context of Houdini. This will allow you to determine if this is the right tutorial for you.
This lesson focuses on lights in Solaris. Learn how to add them to your shot and then how to use the various viewport handles to work interactively from the camera’s point of view. Lighting artists will appreciate how this workflow gives them a great deal of control.
Once you have some lights set up, learn how to use the light mixer to control them as a group. Use this node to tweak the settings of the lights and store the changes in this new node rather than making changes to the original light.
For situations where you have a sequence of shots, Solaris has tools designed to accommodate multiple cameras, light mixers per shot and insertion points that let you add lights to either the whole sequence or on a shot by shot basis.
The Render Gallery offers the perfect tool for exploring multiple iterations for your shots. After making changes to your lighting setup you can create a snapshot. After creating several snapshots, you can look back at your iterations and once you determine which is the best, you can revert your settings back to match that image.

Hi, thanks for this usefull series!
While using the Look-At Mode i encounter some strange behavior - as long as this mode is active, everything is fine.
As soon as I leave the mode the light changes its rotation and begins to behave really unpredicable.

        Did I miss something?

        Thanks for your help.
