I notice there is an icon like a clock named Real Time Toggle in the left-bottom cornor. However, nothing is changed when it is pressed down except the playing speed of animation becomes slow. What's the function of this button? And when do I have to keep it down?

Moin,
> the playing speed of animation becomes slow
… not exactly. According to documentation (that you have, of course, studied), it is (https://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini/anim/playbar.html [www.sidefx.com] ) there to toggle between “do your simulation no matter how long it takes” (paraphrased) and “do whatever necessary to keep the set FPS rate”. “Realtime” in that sense means “stick to the set FPS rate”, whereas “do simulation and forget about FPS” can be slower - or much faster.

Out of here. Being called a dick after having supported Houdini users for years is over my paygrade.
I will work for money, but NOT for "you have to provide people with free products" Indie-artists.
Good bye.

Hi, anonymous user,
please do have a look into the documentation that accompanies this software. While it isn't perfect, it does answer a good part of your questions :-)
As for “letting the computer run faster”: This can not globally, generally be answered with “yes” or “no”, from my perspective the best response to your assumption is “erm … uh … I guess … no?”
