I'm hoping someone can reduce my consumption of headache pills on this one...
I want to stamp an SDF generated shape in COPs oriented to the object space -Y direction, and I just can't get my head around it. What I'm struggling with is how to translate a 3D object space attribute into a rotation in 2D UV space.
I have a gradient vector on the points in 3D space from the measure SOP.
Think of the classic 'condensation drips running down a can of drink' effect. Whatever the orientation of the can the drips will run along the optimum 'gradient descent' path due to gravity (-Y).
I want to rotate a simple shape using 'stamp point' in COPs so that the shape aligns in the same way - ie its rotation is in line with the optimum 'gradient descent' path due to gravity - but translated into 2D UV space. So, when the COP based 2d texture map is applied back onto the 3D object using uv's - the shapes will be oriented correctly to 'gradient descent' in 3D space.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks.

sorry don't have a shorter vid for just this, i plan to make one that shows the orient method and the sprite attribute method, maybe Ill just show stamped gradient, but i do have a vid that covers world orient to uv: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqpovSR1nJ8&t=5s [www.youtube.com]

you may not need the uv to uv seam fix part so just skip it. hip files there too

Graham,
That's spot on - and very generous of you. Many, many thanks. Just what I needed and I shall be studying each example in detail!
