I try to spawn a python3 shell from houdini 16.5 win64 to do things I cant do with python2.7.
but I get the following error :
Fatal Python error: Py_Initialize: unable to load the file system codec
File “Croot/sidefx/H16_5_295/python27\lib\encodings\__init__.py”, line 123
Also If i try to spawn another python2.7 installation with popen ( not the houdini one ) it starts, but is all messed up with its packages.
I guess it has something to do with the environment inherited from the houdini host process but how can I spawn another python installation in a clean way from houdini. No matter if its python3 or python2, which ever works.

slowly things become clearer. under windows I cant easily install packages to the houdini python environment ( cause of same compiler as python host etc .. ). Thats why I was calling another standard python installation from the houdini env. In this special case to get access to matplotlib functionality. But I figured out that the problem is the environment which gets inherited from the houdini python. Is it possible to popen a cmd or python process with the vanilla environment ?

With the current version of houdini 16.5.295 win64 I have the problem that I cannot read npz files anymore. With standard numpy from standard python2.7 x64 I can read the files without any problem.
Has someone the same problem ?

focus = hou.node('/obj/subnet1/') focus.setSelected(True) desk = hou.ui.curDesktop() scene = desk.paneTabOfType(hou.paneTabType.SceneViewer) scene.setIsCurrentTab() scene.curViewport().homeSelected()
This shelf snipped should select an object switch to sceneviewer tab ( which it does ) and then home the selected object.
I only works if I press the shelf button twice . The first press swallows the homeSelected ..
Is there a way to force a redraw or refresh or something like it ?

I am trying to extract the position and rotation from a packed objects rbd simulation.
It works for position but fails for rotation ( I did quaternion -> euler transformation from packedfulltransform )
Maybe someone could someone can give me a hint. I am kind of stuck ..
Is there nothing to make quaternion -> euler easier in wrangle ?

Does it vanish during launch without any logs ? ( if started from bash )
I have a similar issue, but for me it is a qt5 problem.
It works with the qt4 version for me.

For me it worked too until a few days ago. Then after upgrade to 5.9.x old and nee installs of h16qt5 stopped working. No error messages. No startup. Process stays for some time but no gui pops up. Qt4 Version works fine.

They use qt4 instead of qt5 for ui widgets. Seems to be a compatibility thing. ATM the qt4 build is the only way for me to use houdini 16 on KDE 5.9

The QT5 Version of houdini 16.0.5xx is broken for me since I upgraded to KDE 5.9.
I had to switch to the qt4 version to make it start again.
Is the qt5 version dynamically linked ?
What can I do to make the qt5 version work again ?
Anybody else experiencing the same problems ?

I hacked it somehow by creating a virtualenv, installing pydicom there and then copying the dicom folders to h16/python27/lib/site-packages of the houdini installation. now it works without problems.
Is there a way to create a python virtualenv which is usable from within houdini ?

I am trying to install pydicom into the python27 folder of houdini 16.0.504. Its a pure python lib without C dependencies. It worked with Houdini 13 without any problems but with H16 I always get the following error message during setup.py :
error: byte-compiling is disabled.
I also couldnt install pip with the same error message. Again pure python and it worked with H13.
Any hints ?
