When I switch to the channel editor to view CHOPs data, I do not see any lines. I loaded CHOP geometry node example file, and still no luck. I tried looking at all the settings, and restoring to defaults, but nothing has worked.
Please, help me see this important data!

Strangely enough, the viewer for CHOPs is called “Motion View”, or you can use a Context View.
Yes, naming the CHOPs viewer “Motion View” doesn't make any sense and confuses people.

A 20min CHOPs primer video tutorial (basic easy stuff GUI related etc) is first on my list as soon as I get my current project done … hold tight

(seen this question like 5 times now on the forum)

It would be far more helpful if SESI simply gives the CHOP viewer a reasonable name, preferably having something to do with its actual usage (which is not motion editing).

Maybe, but it is used extensively for motion editing (or at least I use it for that, as well as audio)

If they really wanted to irk beginners they could just call it sample-graph (chops) and vector-graph (channel editor). Beginners wouldn't know where to animate, at all

For what it's worth, I guess the other names are more exciting (also less accurate)

OK, I'll see what I can come up with tonight with the video walkthrough I need a break from typing

A little off-topic but is there an actual button for set-key anywhere, that threw me for a loop with H9 coming from a max background (because there is a button with a key on it but it doesn't set keys). I don't like to forceably memorize shortcuts even if I can set them to what I want.

hmmm, looking through help, doesn't look like it

“k” maybe?

cheers!
sy.

PS the button with key on it sets an “Auto Key” mode (Alt+k): whatever you change in selected item will be keyframed without your attention as long as there was already scoped (or keyframed more likely) channel in to.

yes I knew about the “K” shortcut, and it's customizable. My point is that I'm being forced to use a shortcut for the set-key. I would like button to click on, it's a more finalizing feeling for me o well.

I'm such a huge flake I promise I will do the CHOPs video walkthrough tomorrow (it's 3:30 am, I am behind schedule)

Don't worry. We can wait. Specially if you show you work on filters in CHOPS…

Yeah, waiting is no problem.
Maybe a big graph that described all the different panes, and their functions would be helpful.

Motion Viewer. Worst. Name. Ever. Why not just call it “CHOPs viewer”?

Right click on your shelf and select new tool, name it whatever you want and give it some icon. In the scirpt tab set the language to hscript and enter this command:

chcommit -s

Accept changes, you now have a button that will set keys on scoped channels in the channel editor.

Thanks for the tut, Andrew. It's very nice and useful. If exposed, it will help newcomers.
Unfortunately, this doesn't change one inch the fact that name “Motion View” is simply bad design, unintuitive and confusing. I find extremely saddening that users have to made tutorials with the purpose of helping newcomers deal easier with the bad design of a product.
