Hi there,

I'm in the same boat, though with Win 7 64 bit. I've posted a request for help and emailed support - nothing as yet. Houdini starts the install process: progress bar gets to around 25%, but then just cuts out - extremely infuriating.

Regards,

Helene

No problems here on 64bit Win7. I've run 10.0.430 and 10.0.465.

32-bit Win 7 at home (with Nvidia GTX 8800)… works fine – much better than 32-bit vista! I can finally run fluid-sims at home again!

What builds have you tried? System specs?

I've installed build 374, 430, and 473 on 32-bit 7, and they work just fine. I haven't seen anything involving gfont.exe.

Hell what is gfont.exe

If you searched for “gfont” in this forum, you might have found this thread:

I'd try what rafal said in that thread:

One possibility is that the installer encountered a bad truetype font.
Unfortunately, this happens from time to time due to the inherent nature of the
truetype font format. This installation step isn't necessary if you do not need
to use truetype fonts in Houdini and it can be rerun later if needed. So on
your system, first try to get Houdini installed without this step. Just kill
gfont.exe from the Task Manager.

Once Houdini is installed, we can debug the issue as follows:
1. Launch Command Line Tools from the Start Menu under
Side Effects Software > Houdini X.X.XXX.
2. Run this command: gfont -Sv This will generate verbose processing.
If the program stalls at any given point in time for longer than a minute, then
that is probably a bad font. If you send us that font file, then we can try to
fix gfont so that it can handle it.
