As the title suggests. Am I legally allowed to sell my custom Houdini tools/assets on websites that aren't directly owned by or associated with SideFx?(my own website, gumroad, as benefits for patreon subscribers etc.)?

If you have a commercial version of Houdini then you can publish and sell .hda files anywhere.

If you have an indie version of Houdini then you can publish and sell .hdalc files but these can only be opened by other indie users.

If you have Apprentice then you can ONLY sell .hdanc files on Orbolt because the EULA allows that.

The advantage of Orbolt is that your .hdanc and .hdalc files will be converted to .hda files for everyone to use. This creates a bigger audience for your assets. You can then set up a webpage to promote the asset and point to Orbolt or publish a tutorial on the SideFX website that teaches how the asset works.

Orbolt seems a perfect compliment to Houdini. I don't know why it never took off. Perhaps because SideFX is really bad at running any web-based service. The official document site is not CDN'ed, this forum doesn't even support drag'n'drop images, etc, etc... they really need to hire two interns from web 2.0 startups.

I'm really hoping to see an 'Orbolt v2' sooner than later, it could be such a great asset.
