It's really helpful to have a methodology to work from a blank state and refine from there to your needs. This is a great tutorial, thanks. I wasn't quite sure how you got the stats window.
On windows, to get the stats window, you need to launch houdini from the shell. Type cmd in windows menu and browse to the bin directory in the houdini folder. The stats will now appear as in the tutorial

Where in Houdini 17 can I find this command http://take.ms/xhRTp with which it was easy to go into the material settings?
